Abstract
A Boolean value that determines whether or not list owners may use the mail-merge feature for their lists. BE SURE TO READ DETAILS BELOW!
This feature is also available on z/VM, but only if Embedded Mail Merge (EMM) is enabled.

By default, list owners who are not LISTSERV postmasters may not use the mail-merge features against their own lists (ie, via the "Mail-Merge" button in the web administration interface). Setting this variable to 1 enables this feature for all list owners on the server.
LISTSERV postmasters may always use mail-merge features regardless of the setting of this variable, as it is assumed that they know whether LISTSERV's embedded mail merge feature is available and enabled, whereas individual list owners may not have this information.
NOTE CAREFULLY that mail-merge operations will fail if EMM is not enabled.*

* If embedded mail merge is not available (LISTSERV 14.3 and earlier), the SMTP_FORWARD* variables MUST IMPERATIVELY be pointed to a host which is running LSMTP Classic version 1.1b or higher, or mail-merge operations WILL FAIL.
SInce LSMTP was withdrawn by L-Soft many years ago and is no longer available, supported or maintained, it is strongly recommended that sites running LISTSERV 14.3 or earlier and using the mail-merge functions should upgrade to the current supported version of LISTSERV and use EMBEDDED_MAIL_MERGE instead.
